  • Secretary of State Steve Simon was in Mankato at the VINE Adult Community Center on February 13 to speak about voter registration and election safeguards and security.

He called Minnesota “the champion of voter turnout nationally” because of good laws, a good voting culture, accessibility, and tested, effective security protocols.  He detailed the many layers of scrutiny a voter registration goes through before a voter’s name is placed on the Statewide Voter Registration System.

In addition, he referenced the State Voter Registration/Elections website, which has a wealth of material about the ways in which voter registrations are processed and elections are secured.

Secretary Simon makes it a point to visit every one of Minnesota’s 87 counties at least once every year to connect with Minnesotans.

    ● Increasing the number of 18-year-olds who are registered to vote and 16–17-year-olds who are pre-registered to vote.

    ● Strengthening youth-focused get-out-the vote (GOTV) efforts to boost voter turnout.

    ● Learning about advocacy as an essential part of civic participation.
