How Secure is Voting in Minnesota?

In April of 2026, the Election Data and Science Lab of MIT ranked Minnesota #1 on their elections performance index (a non-partisan survey of election policy and performance).
Verification happens at each step on Election Night, Post-Election Audit & Certification and then Recounts and Complaints
Ballots and equipment are stored under strict conditions with dual custody, sign-ins and video surveillance.
Before Election Day - Voting Machines must meet OSS criteria and undergo rigorous testing by a federal agency. Machines undergo testing pre-election. Machines do not connect to the internet or any network during voting

Become an Election Judge

If you are eligible to vote and able to read, write and speak English, you can be paid to ensure that elections run smoothly in your community. 16 and 17 year old students can apply to be election judge trainees by completing the same training.

Attend a Public Accuracy Test and Post-Election Review

Every county must conduct an accuracy test and post-election review for each state general election. These are great opportunities to witness election safeguards and build voter confidence.
